Turbo Engine Recovery

40 years ago, Mr. Wilfredo D. Salvador, (now President & CEO of Turbo Engine Recovery, Inc. or TERI), established Phil. Electro Mechanical Services Inc., a commercial service station that specializes in repair and overhauling of exhaust gas turbochargers. This is a milestone in the industry as it marked the entry of the very first expert Filipino turbocharger repairer in the local market.

His formidable challenge then was to provide the local industry with a much needed relief from the high cost of overhauling, maintenance and replacement parts. And from lost production due to forced outages and long, unscheduled downtime.

Being a local company, Mr. Salvador managed to offer repair and overhauling services at reasonable and cost effective price and faster turnaround.

And in response to the high cost of replacement parts, he pioneered in the repair of hot section components. With damaged components restored to full serviceable condition at factory specifications and standard, clients were able to realize savings of from 40% to 60% as against the cost of brand new original replacement parts. Hundreds of sets of turbine blades and other turbocharger components repaired by TERI are currently in operation at various industries in different parts of the country.

Over the years, TERI proved to be well-matched with the demand of the industry for efficiency improvement, lower maintenance costs and reliable service. Delivering fast, expert and reliable service at lower cost, TERI quickly earned the trust and confidence of clients. They were happy with the reduced costs and downtime. And the boost in productivity and profit.

With service stations in Manila and Cebu City, TERI has established partnerships with clients in various industries all over the country- in power generation, marine, transport, earth moving, mining, construction, manufacturing and other industrial accounts.

Turbo Engine Recovery Inc. 40 years after

Today, Mr. Salvador has extended his horizon beyond gas turbines. Having established itself firmly in the gas turbine service and repair industry, TERI is now increasingly getting involved in steam and geothermal turbine overhauling and repair of hot components including systems and operation consultancy.

Expanding into the steam and geothermal turbine market segments is a natural growth area for TERI. In the late 1980s, Mr. Salvador joined Turbomachinery, a worldwide membership organization dedicated to the cause of continually improving the selection, operation, maintenance, repair and overhauling of power generating equipments. Mr. Salvador, representing his own company, was one of the pioneer members.

Based in U.S.A., Turbomachinery provides a forum for the exchange of maintenance information. Membership of the organization includes manufacturers of power generating equipments, OEM and aftermarket vendors, users and repairers. Mr. Salvador attended Turbomachinery’s annual congress and expositions held in U.S.A., London, Singapore and other parts of the world.

It is in these maintenance congress and workshops, coupled with his training in Brown Bovery & Company in Baden, Switzerland, that he mastered the art and science of overhauling and repair of various types of turbines.

To be sure, TERI has done repair of steam turbine hot components in the past. But our recent contracts with NPC Palinpinon Geothermal Plant in Dumaguete and Central Azucarera de la Carlota in Bacolod confirmed the full entry of TERI as steam and geothermal market supplier in 2008.
